Overview
Nuwe was a Platform-as-a-Service for health apps — a kind of early Firebase built specifically for digital health and wellness solutions. The value proposition was clear: enable health app developers to focus entirely on their solution while abstracting away the complexity of platforms, infrastructure, APIs, and integrations. Being health-specific meant a particular focus on HIPAA and other health data governance and privacy requirements from the ground up.
Accelerated through Startup Bootcamp Barcelona, Beach served as interim CTO and product team — bringing the vision to life and to market.
Normalised Health Data
At the core of the platform were normalised health data endpoints for key health metrics, fed by integrations with the major wearables providers — Fitbit, Jawbone, Apple Health, Withings, and others. Developers could query a single, consistent API regardless of which device their users wore, removing the fragmentation that made building cross-device health experiences so painful.
The Nuwe App
To demonstrate the platform's capability, we launched the Nuwe app for iOS — a general health tracking application covering physical exercise, nutrition, and biometric tracking in a social, gamified experience. It served as both a consumer product and a proof point for what developers could build on top of the platform.
We pioneered the radial dial UI/UX pattern for health tracking — a design approach that predated and foreshadowed Apple's own interface for the Apple Watch health experience at launch.
What We Built

- Developer-facing APIs abstracting platform, infrastructure, and integration complexity
- Integrations with Fitbit, Jawbone, Apple Health, Withings, and more
- Nuwe iOS app — exercise, nutrition, and biometric tracking with social gamification
- Radial dial UI/UX pattern — predating Apple's own health interface design
- Health data governance and privacy controls built in from the ground up
