Overview
Beach was the first interim CTO at Nourish, brought in when the founders wanted to bring their vision for the digital transformation of social care to market. Working with the Portugal-based engineering team, we built the v1 platform and APIs — the technology foundations of a company that has since grown to become a significant player in UK social care.
The V1 Platform
We built the first versions of the user interfaces across every touchpoint in the care workflow — from mobile-centric, field-deployed apps for iOS and Android designed for social care workers on the go, through to a visual tablet and web-based admin interface for care home management and oversight. Underneath it all was the platform and API layer that made it possible to deliver a consistent experience across devices and contexts.
The Care Graph
One of the most meaningful product contributions was the first care graph — a visual UX that showed the network of people around the person being cared for. In social care, the relationships between carers, family members, medical professionals, and local authorities are critical context. The care graph made those connections visible and navigable for the first time.
Beyond Technology
The role went well beyond building software. We played an active part in early care home sales and product discovery work, engaging directly with local care authorities while managing the R&D functions. Understanding the domain at ground level — the workflows of care workers, the pressures on care home managers, the requirements of local authorities — was essential to building something that actually worked in the field.
