IAMIP

Rearchitecting a patent intelligence platform after product-market fit — monolith extraction, enterprise readiness, and API-first design. Still in production a decade later.

IAMIP patent intelligence platform

Overview

IAMIP is a Swedish startup founded by innovation and patent experts from enterprise backgrounds. They had found successful traction and product-market fit, but were hitting the scaling and UX challenges that come with early-stage architecture. Beach stepped in as interim CTO to redesign and rebuild the platform — creating the technical foundations that are still running in production over a decade later, as the company has moved into AI-assisted capabilities.

Frontend Extraction & Rebuild

The first priority was extracting the frontend from the original monolith and rebuilding it in React. This immediately unblocked the product roadmap, accelerating delivery of core features around patent intelligence, monitoring dashboards, and smart alerting — while giving users a modern, responsive experience worthy of the data behind it.

Monolith to Services

Beyond the frontend, we helped define and extract services from the monolith to establish clearer boundaries and contracts between capabilities. The platform had very different usage models living side by side — from millions of patent records being imported and indexed as rich, searchable documents, through to the relational data model powering collaborative workflows. Separating these concerns was critical for enterprise readiness and for ensuring each part of the system could scale and evolve independently.

API-First for Product Discovery

An API-first design philosophy meant IAMIP could move beyond maintaining a single product and begin exploring new product discovery efforts. One of the first was an invention disclosure product — an obvious extension to the patent lifecycle and a natural value-add for existing customers. By treating the platform as a set of composable services rather than a monolithic application, new product lines could be built on top of proven infrastructure.

What We Delivered

Scaling past product-market fit?

We specialise in rearchitecting platforms that have found traction but need the technical foundations to scale — without losing momentum.
