Overview
Mixfit's vision was to combine health data from the fast-growing wearables market with the answer to the inevitable question: "so what?" After factoring in goal-adjusted targets, actual daily exercise and food consumption, the Mixfit device would dispense a personalised drink — macro-nutrients, micro-nutrients, minerals and vitamins moderated to help the user achieve their daily goals — using patented technology.
Accelerated through MassChallenge and raising $1M in venture funding from DSM Ventures, Mixfit sold a majority stake after showcasing the pre-production prototype of the software and hardware at Vitafoods in Geneva.
The Kaupang Platform
Mixfit was powered by Beach's Kaupang Platform — our early Ruby on Rails-based modular engine architecture for production-ready consumer and SaaS apps, APIs, and health experiences. At its core was the Beach Nutrition Engine, which was key to the accelerated development timeline — providing the full health PaaS layer and enabling Mixfit to focus on the consumer experience.
MINA — The Companion App
MINA was a React Native cross-platform mobile app and Mixfit's first-generation conversational interface. Built using Beach's Forge Canvas — a visual no-code chatbot builder — MINA gave users a natural way to interact with their nutrition data, set goals, and understand what their body needed.
On-Device Software & Firmware
Beach built the Python-based on-device software and C-based firmware interface in partnership with the hardware manufacturer. The device supported remote software updates, Bluetooth connectivity with the mobile app, and cloud sync — bridging the gap between a physical nutrition appliance and a connected software platform.
